A difference in functionality between the versions is something which Microsoft has not pursued for some years. The major differences between standard and data centre licensing focused on virtualization rights or AVMA (automatic virtual machine activation) rather than basic functionality.
This will all change with the launch of the 2016 Server: the majority of all new features will be available on the data centre version while the standard version represents a significantly improved 2012R2 server.
